Why Nature + Small Groups?

At Beyond the Front Door, we believe play is work. Nature is one of childhood's greatest teachers—encouraging movement, curiosity, and resilience while helping children develop the skills they need to thrive. Small groups foster social confidence in a fun, supportive environment where friendships and independence naturally grow through outdoor adventures and everyday skills.

Our Nature-Based Small Groups

AGES 3-5

Movement & Play Groups

A high-energy group designed to build core strength and body awareness. Each session includes obstacle courses, sensory play, and cooperative games that help children master physical confidence in a social nature-based setting.

AGES 3-5

Nature Adventures

Focused on curiosity and resilience. Children navigate natural terrain, engage in loose parts play, and learn basic outdoor safety. This group fosters a deep connection to the environment while building problem-solving skills.

AGES 3-5

Everyday Skills Groups

We bring OT goals into the fresh air. Children practice fine motor tasks like zipping coats, opening snacks, and following multi-step instructions during 'outdoor chores'—preparing them for school and home with playful ease.

More Ways We Support Your Child

In addition to our nature-based small groups, we provide specialized support to help preschoolers thrive in every environment, from home to the classroom.

1-on-1 Consultations: Targeted sessions to address specific developmental milestones and individual goals.

Sensory Home Plans: Custom routines and environment adjustments to support your child's regulation at home.

Parent Workshops: Empowering parents with simple, nature-based OT strategies for everyday life.

Common Questions

What should my child wear for outdoor sessions?

We recommend layers, long pants, and closed-toe shoes that can get a little Vitamin G (dirt!). We stay outdoors in most weather, so please send waterproof gear on rainy days.

Is nature-based therapy safe for my preschooler?

Safety is our top priority. Our groups are small, led by a clinical OT, and we always scan environments for hazards. We use managed risk to help children build confidence safely.

What happens if it rains or snows?

We embrace the elements! Rain and snow provide unique sensory lessons. We only cancel if weather is severe or dangerous, moving into our rain plan protocols to keep kids safe.

Do parents attend the small group sessions?

Most groups are designed for child independence. However, we have specific offerings for parent participation. We'll find the best fit during your inquiry call.
